Nicht nur der Marathon mit 2 Athleten unter 2:06 bzw. 2:24, sondern auch der Halbmarathon im Rahmen des Houston Marathon könnte interessant werden. Marathonweltmeisterin Mare Dibaba (ETH 1:07:13) tritt im Halbmarathon in Erscheinung und trifft dabei auf die Halbmarathonvizeweltmeisterin Mary Wacera, Cynthia Limo (KEN 1:07:02) und Buzunesh Deba (ETH). Bei den Herren testet Lelisa Desisa (ETH 59:30) seine Form gegen Mosinet Geremew (ETH 59:11) und Vorjahressieger Diego Estrada (USA 60:51).
Bei den Frauen ist im Halbmarathon auch die Deutsche Mona Stockhecke am Start.
