Jessica Ennis-Hill previews the 17th World Athletics Championships, which this year takes place in the Qatari capital of Doha. Ennis-Hill, who won the world heptathlon title in 2009, 2011 and 2015, talks to several of the stars expected to challenge for medals at the Khalifa International Stadium, including British duo Dina Asher-Smith and Katarina Johnson-Thompson. Für alle deutschen Mehrkämpfer geht es in Ratingen um die Olympiaqualifikation, ebenso wie für Ivona Dadic (Union St. Pölten), die 6200 Punkte benötigt. In Götzis fehlten noch 4 Punkte, aber auch der derzeitige Weltranglistenplatz würde seitens der IAAF/ÖLV ausreichen. Mit Verena Preiner (Union Ebensee) ist auch eine zweite Österreicherin dabei, die um das EM-Ticket (5900 Punkte) kämpfen wird. Als „Stargast“ ist Jessica Ennis-Hill mit dabei.
Verena Preiner (Union Ebensee) zeigte trotz der teilweise schwierigen Bedingungen einen starken Siebenkampf mit 5822 Punkten (SB). Auf das EM Limit fehlten 78 Punkte, den 800m Disziplinensieg verpasste sie in 2:11,65 nur um 19/100s.
Am Freitag und Samstag findet das Diamond League Meeting in London im Rahmen der Sainsbury’s Anniversary Games statt. Am Sonntag folgen dann noch die Paralympischen Bewerbe der Anniversary Games, die live auf Eversport übertragen werden sollten.
Mit dabei ist mit Gerhard Mayer (SVS-Leichtathletik) auch wieder mal ein Österreicher, der natürlich im Diskuswurf um 20:10 Uhr MESZ starten wird.
Beim 41. Mehrkampfmeeting in Götzis sind zwei Österreicher mit dabei. Dominik Siedlaczek (DSG Volksbank Wien) ist der einzige männliche Vertreter und Verena Preiner (Union Ebensee) vertritt zum ersten Mal in Götzis Österreichs Farben, wo auch Olympiasiegerin Jessia Ennis-Hill ihr Comeback feiern wird. Die Vorjahressiegerin Katarina Johnson-Thompson hat ihren Start leider abgesagt, aber mit Dafne Schippers, Nafissatou Thiam und vielen weiteren Topathletinnen ist das Feld natürlich gut bestückt. Auch Ivona Dadic (PSV-Hornbach Wels) musste ihren Start nach einem Bänderriss absagen. Weltrekordler Ashton Eaton hat mehrmals angekündigt seinen eigenen Weltrekord verbessern zu wollen. Die gute Form hat er bei Einzelstarts schon gezeigt, man darf also trotz einiger Ausfälle wie immer sehr gespannt sein auf das Hypo Meeting Götzis!
Tolle Rennen stehen beim Great Manchester Run bevor. Bei den Herren trifft Wilson Kipsang auf Haile Gebrselassie und Leonard Patrik Komon, sowie Bernard Lagat. Aber auch das Frauenfeld kann sich sehen lassen. Hier trifft Meseret Defar auf Gemma Steel, Jo Pavey, Betsy Saina, Tiki Gelana, sowie Edna Kiplagat.
Einen Tag zuvor geht es bereits bei den Great CityGames Manchester zur Sache. Mit dabei sind unter anderem die britishen Mehrkämpferinnen Katarina Johnson-Thompson, Jessica Ennis-Hill und Morgan Lake, sowie Dafne Schippers. Mit dabei sind auch Greg Rutherford, Felix Sanchez, David Oliver, Tiffany Porter sowie Richard Kilty.

BBC Two überträgt dann am Sonntag den Great Manchester Run live von 12-14 Uhr MESZ. Die Frauen sollten um 12:15 starten, die Männer um 12:37. Highlights vom Great Manchester Run werden von 17:30-18:30 Uhr (Scotland ab 18 Uhr) gezeigt.
