Am Samstag stimmt die BBC wieder mit „My Reason to run“ auf den London Marathon am Sonntag ein. Der Plot der BBC:

Gabby Logan looks ahead to the 39th London Marathon, one of the most eagerly anticipated events on the sporting calendar, and meets some of the athletes who make it so special. Over 40,000 people will cover the 26.2-mile course around the streets of London, and every one of them has their own unique reason why they are running. Fun runners of all abilities, ages and backgrounds are raising money for many charitable causes, helping make it such an inspirational day. Ahead of them will be the elite runners, including Olympic legend Sir Mo Farah, who is aiming to win his home marathon for the first time, while Vivian Cheruiyot is back to defend her women’s crown. In the wheelchair event, eight-time winner David Weir will be competing for the 20th consecutive year.

Man kann darüber streiten, welches Feld am Sonntag beim London Marathon besser besetzt ist. Bei den Frauen hat „Womens Only“ Weltrekordlerin Mary Keitany einen Angriff auf den Weltrekord von Paula Radcliffe angekündigt. Mit Tirunesh Dibaba ist eine weitere 2:17 Läuferin und mehrfache Olympiasiegerin im Feld. Dazu kommen weitere 7 Athletinnen mit Bestzeiten unter 2:24.
Bei den Männern trifft Streckenrekordler (2:03:05) und „Man to beat“ Eliud Kipchoge auf Vorjahressieger Daniel Wanjiru, den offiziell schnellsten Mann im Feld und Vorjahreszweiten Kenenisa Bekele oder den Zweiten von Berlin Guye Adola. Besonderes Augenmerk liegt natürlich auch auf Doppel-Doppeloylmpiasieger Mo Farah bei seinem zweiten Marathon in London.

Gabby Logan looks ahead to 2018’s London Marathon and meets some of the runners. Over 40,000 people will run the 26.2 miles, and each has a special reason why they are running. From the world’s best elite men and women runners in Eliud Kipchoge and Mary Keitany – who are aiming to set new world records – to the fun runners who are raising money for many charitable causes, the London Marathon is a global event that brings people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds together.
