Nach den ausgewählten Rennen der 2010er Saison der Diamond League und Golden League, gibt es nun etwas mehr Material von der 2011er Saison. Beate Schrott (Union St. Pölten) war in dieser Saison zum Beispiel bei Weltklasse Zürich über 100m Hürden am Start.

BBC zeigt am Montag von 1-2 Uhr MESZ eine Wiederholung. Eurosport 2 Deutschland ebenfalls nur eine Aufzeichnung am Montag von 0-1:30 Uhr MESZ. British Eurosport 2 ist live mit dabei am Sonntag von 18-20 Uhr MESZ.

Am Freitag beginnt mal wieder die IAAF Diamond League in Doha. Wie schon in den letzten Jahren, jedoch ohne Übertragung im deutschsprachigen Fernsehen. Österreicher sind heuer laut Startliste beim Auftakt in Doha keine dabei, aber eine große Anzahl an deutschen Athleten. Ein besonderes Auge darf man dabei (aus läuferischer Sicht) auf das Auftreten von 1500m Olympiasieger Taoufik Makhloufi legen, der sich seit London rar gemacht hat. Er trifft auf ein sehr starkes Feld angeführt von zum Beispiel Asbel Kiprop, Silas Kiplagat, Nixon Chepseba, Ayanleh Souleiman oder auch Homiyu Tesfaye. Über 800m darf man sich auf ein Duell zwischen Mohammed Aman und Nijel Amos freuen, der zuletzt mit einer 400m Bestzeit von 45,56s aufgezeigt hat.
Aber auch zum Beispiel der Hochsprung mit Derek Drouin, Ivan Ukhov und Mutaz Essa Barshim müsste eigentlich zu einem echten Highlight werden.

Genzebe Dibaba wird sich am Samstag erneut einen Weltrekord vornehmen. Über die 2 Meilen versucht sie den nächsten Weltrekord von Meseret Defar (9:06,26) zu unterbieten. Mohammed Aman, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, James Dasaolu stehen wie die Deutschen Arne Gabius, Homiyu Tesfaye, Nadine Hildebrand, Cindy Roleder, Sosthene Moguenara, Lisa Ryzih, Yasmin Kwadwo und Martin Günther auf der Startliste.
Beate Schrott (Union St. Pölten) startet am Wochenende nicht in Birmingham sondern außer Konkurrenz bei den österreichischen U18/U20/Mehrkampf Meisterschaften im Wiener Ferry-Dusika Stadion.

Das Highlights dabei sind die natürlich die Auszeichnungen zum Leichtathleten bzw. zur Leichtathletin des Jahres. Zur Wahl bei den Herren stehen Bohdan Bondarenko, Usain Bolt und Mo Farah. Bei den Frauen fällt die Entscheidung zwischen Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, Valerie Adams und Zuzana Heijnová.

Die Frage des heutigen Meetings wird sein, was kann Usain Bolt zeigen um die starken Vorstellungen von Tyson Gay zumindest etwas zu relativieren? Über 200m tritt Usain heute gegen Landsmann Warren Weir an, der mit 19,79s eine idente Saisonbestleistung hat. Direkt hinter ihm läuft Christophe Lemaitre, der schön langsam auch in Fahrt kommen sollte. Über 800m der Frauen darf man gespannt sein, wie der Rest der Welt sich gegen Francine Niyonsaba schlägt. Über 100m der Frauen kommt es zum Duell der US-Meisterin English Gardener gegen Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce auch Blessing Okagbare und Kelly-Ann Baptiste darf man nicht außer acht lassen.
