Am Sonntag startet wieder der Great North Run, der mit über 50000 Teilnehmer eines der größten Laufevents der Welt und das größte Laufevent von Großbritannien ist. Mit dabei ist auch Mo Farah der seinen sechsten Erfolg in Serie anstrebt. Callum Hawkins steht wie Tamirat Tola oder Bashir Abdi an der Startlinie. Bei den Frauen geht es für Mary Keitany um ihren vierten Sieg gegen Brigid Kosgei und Magdalene Masai.

Am Sonntag startet wieder der Great North Run, der mit über 50000 Teilnehmer eines der größten Laufevents der Welt und das größte Laufevent von Großbritannien ist. Mit dabei ist auch Mo Farah der seinen fünften Erfolg in Serie anstrebt. Die schärfsten Herausforderer sind vermutlich Jake Robertson und Daniel Wanjiru Vivian Cheruiyot trifft auf Weltrekordlerin Joyciline Jepkosgei.

Am Samstag finden die Great North City Games in Gateshead und Newcastle statt. Bereits einen Tag nach dem Diamond League Finale in Brüssel geht es für Dafne Schippers und Allyson Felix weiter zu den Great North City Games. Auch 1500m Weltmeister Asbel Kiprop und Weitsprung Weltmeister Greg Rutherford haben sich angekündigt.

Am Sonntag findet der Great North Run mit den Vorjahressiegern Mo Farah und Mary Keitany statt.

Sonntag 15.09.2013 – Great North Run

Am Sonntag dem 15. September 2013 folgt der Bupa Great North Run über die Halbmarathonstrecke (mit zuviel Gefälle) treffen Haile Gebrselassie, Kenenisa Bekele und Mo Farah bei den Herren, sowie Tirunesh Dibaba und Meseret Defar bei den Frauen aufeinander. Die schnellste Zeit hat mit 1:06:11 allerdings Priscah Jeptoo stehen. Bei den Herren ist Haile der einzige mit einer Bestzeit unter 60 Minuten. BBC One und Eurosport 2 übertragen live.

Günther Weidlinger beim Great North Run gegen E. Mutai, Martin Lel! und Mo Farah?

Nächsten Sonntag wird Österreichs Rekordläufer Günther Weidlinger sich im Halbmarathon gegen die Weltbesten messen. Beim Great North Run in Newcastle steht er neben den beiden ersten des London Marathons 2011 Emanuel Mutai und 2.ten Martin Lel am Start. Auch Doppelmarathonweltmeister (2003&05) und Olympiazweiter (2008) Joauad Gharib wird am Start stehen. Der 5000m Weltmeister & 10000m Vizeweltmeister (2011) Mo Farah hat einen Start am Great North Run Wochenende zugesagt, jedoch noch nicht über welche Distanz anscheinend über die 2 Meilen.

Aus österreichischer Sicht ist sicher auch das Abschneiden von Jan Fitschen (GER) und Patrick Stitzinger (NED) im Vergleich zu Weidlinger interessant. BBC1 überträgt die Great City Games 2011 (Samstag 17.09.2011 14:00-15:30 MEZ) wie auch den Great North Run Live (Sonntag 10:30-14:30 MEZ).

Nach dem Great North Run wird Günther Weidlinger (und Andrea Mayr) die 10km Staatsmeisterschaften in Völkermarkt bestreiten bevor es beim BMW Frankfurt Marathon ums Olympialimit geht.

Eurosport2 übertragt den Halbmarathon zwischen 11-13 Uhr im deutschen TV.

Günther Weidlinger läuft auf Platz 12 in 1:03:56. Angesichts der schnellen Siegerzeiten hoffe ich dass es nur ein Trainingslauf war…

In der Wachau war Christian Pflügl nach seinem Trainingslager in Iten/Kenia, die oberösterreichischen Nachrichten berichteten, der beste Österreicher in 1:06:51. Christian müsste dieses Tempo am Marathon halten um das Olympialimit zu schaffen.
