Der Supersaturday von den Olympischen Spielen 2012 am Sonntag nochmal zum Nachfühlen.

Plot:

Ahead of the London 2017 World Championships, four-time Olympic champion Michael Johnson looks back to London 2012 and the subsequent journey for three of the golden heroes from Super Saturday – Sir Mo Farah, Dame Jessica Ennis-Hill and Greg Rutherford.

Michael visits Jess in Sheffield to hear her memories of what has been described as the greatest day in British sporting history, as well as her incredible journey afterwards, which includes giving birth to her first child Reggie and going on to win gold at the World Championships just 13 months later.

Greg and his family then welcome Michael to Arizona, and they discuss the ups and downs of his career over the last five years. Mo charts his extraordinary non-stop success on the track while remembering the sacrifices he made off it.

The documentary explores what it takes to be a world-class athlete and the challenges of staying at the top. Through the unique stories of Jess, Mo and Greg, Michael discovers what is so captivating about athletics, what it takes to reach and perform at this level within the sport and what the next generation of stars will face as they prepare for the first World Championships to be held in the UK.

Bereits einen Tag nach dem Diamond League Finale in Brüssel geht es für Dafne Schippers und Allyson Felix weiter zu den Great North City Games. Auch 1500m Weltmeister Asbel Kiprop und Weitsprung Weltmeister Greg Rutherford haben sich angekündigt.

Am Sonntag findet der Great North Run mit den Vorjahressiegern Mo Farah und Mary Keitany statt.

Bevor es am Samstag die Diamond League in New York halt macht, geht es am Donnerstag zum 50.ten Geburtstag in die Hauptstadt Norwegens, Oslo. Danach gibt es wieder eine etwas längere Pause bis 4. Juli. Ein besonderes Highlight könnte, wie in vielen Jahren, die abschließende Dream Mile werden. Über 5000m könnte es einen Weltrekordversuch durch Genzebe Dibaba geben, der gleichzeitig auch der Stadionrekord ihrer Schwester Tirunesh ist. Auch die Frauenlaufsiegerin Jessica O’Connell ist im Feld. Über 3000m Hindernis darf man sich auf ein erneutes Duell zwischen Jairus Birech und Ezekiel Kemboi freuen. Im Hochsprung der Männer ist wieder das Duell Mutaz Essa Barshim gegen Bohdan Bondarenko angesagt, wobei auch der Chinese Guowei Zhang mit 2,38m Saisonbestleistung sicher wieder ein Wörtchen mitreden will.

Nach Stockholm geht es gleich weiter zur letzten Station vor den abschließenden Meetings in Zürich und Brüssel wo die Diamanten endgültig vergeben werden. Am Sonntag lädt der Sainsbury’s Birmingham Grand Prix nochmal die besten Leichtathleten der Welt zu sich ein, bevor es am Donnerstag in Zürich zum Abschluss für die erste Hälfte der Diamond League Bewerbe geht.
